The artist has given the complete sum of his £25k honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the UK's independent music venues.

He was presented with the cheque on mid-October as his latest record the album was named the best record of the previous year.

The musician has opted to give the cash to the trust, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues fulfilled in his beginning days.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing my current career if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was starting out," stated Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – about one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists like the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which benefits independent venues.

He also participated, collecting more than £100,000 on his live tour to support thirty-eight small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money helped spaces that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties arising from water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces were granted financial assistance in modernizing amenities and sound and lighting systems that helped musicians and concertgoers.

"The notion that money from concerts in major spaces supports the local stages, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.

He is not the first artist to contribute his honor prize money to worthy causes.

Back when they earned the trophy in 1996 for their release their work, frontman Cocker announced that the band would contribute their cash to the charity War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite divided her award between several charities, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I donated a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked better apparatus," she shared with the media.

Previously, the band contributed their funds to the local youth club that supported their band, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners the group donated their winnings to a MS organization after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," remarked singer the singer. "The money was the bonus but we didn't require the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning touched another person's life."

Recently, the trust announced it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in Southampton and the other in that location were acquired under the community ownership program, which is backed by a national body and enthusiasts who acquire "shares" in the buildings.
